WHAT IS A COMMUNITY LAND TRUST
Community land trusts (CLTs) are nonprofit organizations governed by a board of CLT residents, community residents, and public representatives that provide lasting community assets and shared equity homeownership opportunities for families and communities. CLTs develop rural and urban agriculture projects, commercial spaces to serve local communities, affordable rental and cooperative housing projects, and conserve land or urban green spaces. However, the heart of their work is the creation of homes that remain permanently affordable, providing successful homeownership opportunities for generations of lower income families.
We envision neighborhoods that support Black teachers.
Attract and retain Black educators in Kansas City through attainable housing.
THROUGH AFFORDABLE HOUSING WE WILL BE ABLE TO RECRUIT, DEVELOP & RETAIN BLACK TEACHERS IN KANSAS CITY.
The organization Teachers Like Me is focused on two groups of people: college of education graduates from partner universities and high school students to receive a bachelor's degree in education. Incentives to recruit the teachers include signing bonuses, relocation fees, affordable housing, and scholarships.
Teachers Like Me is focused on developing a strong instructional pedagogy with a culturally responsive lens. Teachers will be provided additional professional develop by Teachers Like Me to improve instructional practices.
Teachers remaining in their school and/or district will receive a retention bonus each year.
It's not enough to just be able to recruit and develop great teachers if we don't invest in filling the needs of those teachers and making sure that we retain them in our schools.
